Kansas City General Information

Kansas City, known as the “Heart of America” because it’s located within 250 miles of both the geographic and population centers of the nation, but also because of this city’s warmth, it’s big-hearted graciousness and hospitality.

It is a beautiful city, with more boulevards than Paris and more working fountains (200+) than any city outside of Rome. Each community in the striking metropolitan area has its own unique appeal. Vibrant and diverse, Kansas City maintains a healthy mix of art and agriculture, sports and technology, cowboys and haute couture.

Thanks to the city’s agricultural roots, great steaks and mouth-watering barbeque abound. But there is more. Strolling down Southwest Boulevard you can find wonderful authentic Spanish and Mexican cuisine, and on 39th Street corridor you can find a smorgasbord of restaurants ranging from Cajun to Indian.

This city is famous for its stockyards, saxophone player Charlie “Bird” Parker, and Duke Ellington, and its world-renowned barbeque. Steeped in history, several Civil War battles were bought here. It is known for it’s famous and infamous citizens; Walt Disney first sketched Mickey Mouse in a Kansas City garage, and Harry S. Truman began his political career here. This is the birthplace of Jesse James and Kansas City was the site of his first bank robbery.

Check out the Truman Library, the American Jazz Museum and the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum, and the newly renovated Union Station. The variety and number of attractions are amazing in this compact city.
