Don't Do It!
Review Date: 6/5/2009 Reviewer: Anonymous
Oak Place Apartments are by far the worst apartments I have ever lived in. Moving in here was a huge mistake. Despite the fact that these are BRAND NEW APARTMENTS the ceilings leak, the carpet is torn from the floors simply from everyday wear and tear, the appliances break, and the card readers that are supposed to provide resident access to all doors of the buildings AND the parking garage shut down continually, often causing a resident to be locked from their apartment or out of the parking garage (and there's no where to park if you're locked out). The apartments are FAR too expensive for the space that you get - $653 per month per resident for a four bedroom. That's $2600 for the apartment. The cost of other close properties is not NEAR that. And then parking is an extra $50 per month (DOWNTOWN parking is cheaper than that!) The management is also extremely unhelpful and frequently misplace resident mail packages. The lease promised residents access to fully-equipped computer labs and outdoor amenities such as grills, included in the cost of rent, yet the computer labs were not provided until November, and there are still no signs of grill areas. HBO was included in our cost of rent as well, but it was removed without warning or compensation in April (we pay for it through July). There is also no surveillance in the parking garage; so much for safety! Residents are also required to sign in all guests at the front desk - a HUGE inconvenience considering not all residents live close to the front desk. You also must follow the school no-alcohol policy (in case that's an issue for anyone): No alcohol on the premises, even if you're 21 or over. Basically, it's this: my Oak Place experience has been a terrible one, and they've failed on a lot of their promises. If you want glorified dorm life that just costs twice what it does to live in a dorm, great... you've found your niche. But if not, live somewhere else. I've yet to meet a resident that will be renewing their lease for the fall, despite all of the half-off promos and promises of free Ipods, free rent, etc. Just don't do it!!! |
